Ofqui Expedition August 2006
This seakayaking expedition started at the little known "Istmo
de Ofqui", with the objective of exploring indigenous paths and
the isolated coasts of the Golfo de Penas. The expedition started
with a portage of 1.5 Km. along the wetlands of the Istmo de Ofqui,
and then going down the rivers Negro and San Tadeo, that cross the
Istmo de Ofqui for 30km. From here
we navigated and explored along 60 nautical miles of the Bahía
San Quintín on the ocean. The expedition lasted 22 days, in
an incredible and unique place, where at every moment we could feel
the energy created by the forces of the Pacific Ocean colliding with
the Northern Ice Field. Everyday provided incredible views of icebergs,
giant glaciars, open ocean, whales, long
sandy beaches, huge sand dunes and walls that showed thousands of years
of sediment. Exploring this magical corner of the world, where humans
are yet to put their trails, was a true gift.
